MEET ZARIAH OCEAN

Hey Sweet Friends!
I started baking when I was just six years old. I baked my first granny smith apple pie with Grandma Lula Belle McLaurin. In April 2009, a strategy struck my family and my grandma passed unexpectedly. As time passed, I began spending more time with my dad’s mother, Grandma Alease Ocean and my love for baking grew. During the summer we created brownies, cupcakes, and pound cakes. I then decided to create a Facebook business page in 2014 titled “Kake Me Away Bakery” so that my family and friends could see my creations. In July 2017, Grandma Alease Ocean passed away, so it was just me. My family members did not have a passion for baking, instead, they did for cooking. I began binge-watching various cooking shows on Food Network and Netflix. I started promoting my sweets more on my Facebook page and many showed outpouring support. As time progressed, I began creating custom cakes and treats leading to more orders pouring in. My favorite thing to make to this day is red velvet cupcakes- they are sweet and simple. I have a promise to myself that one day I will open a bakery in memory of both of my grandmothers.
Starting this business was one of the biggest risks I have decided to take, and I am so grateful I decided to take it.
